Time for more artist celebration!
Taylor Crawford is one of my design students and at her senior thesis exhibition I was *blown away!* by her awesome photography (I had only seen the design side). And I promptly fell in love with her photographic style and basically begged her to open a Society6 shop (done! Links will be below!). Get ready world, because Taylor Crawford is coming! And I can’t wait to see how she documents it with her keen eye and camera!
C: What is your main focus? (art/design/illustration/other or ye olde combo platter?)
T: Photography with also a minor in graphic design.
C: Have you always been interested in art/design/illustration? If so, why? If not, what were you interested in?
T: Ever since I was about 3 years old, I’ve always used art as an outlet for my creative thoughts and my imagination, once I began to dabble in more mediums I soon began to realize I have a serious passion for photography, especially fashion and editorial work.
C: How did you get into art? What was your spark?
T: I used to always catch myself drifting off and not paying attention to lectures in class which led me to begin doodling which quickly turned into abstract drawings. Though I would soemtimes get into trouble for prefering to draw than listen to lectures, I knew deep down that the artistic thoughts and ideas would lead to something great for me towards the future.
C: Goals you’d like to achieve in 1 year? 5 years? A lifetime? (a biggie, I know!)
T: In one year, I want to not only continue with freelancing with photography, but also get into art management and begin throwing art cases around DC. In 5 years, I see myself into a profession dealing with fashion photography. I’d love to work for a fashion comapny such as Vogue, Elle and some others and take pictures for their magazines. By this time I’d also like to own a few buildings specifically for renting out to artist to create their own showcases as well as to use for studio rentals. For my lifetime, I’d want my name to be well known in the photography world and continue to work with different fashion companies making artistic visions come true.
C: Favorite creative and why? (past or present, either’s fine!)
T: I’m not sure if I have a particular piece that is my favorite, but I know that I absolutely love the work done by Nigel Barker who is my favorite photographer.
C: Why do you create?
T: I feel as if I have a very vivid imagination. Not just in the sense of being a creative individual, but also just viewing things from a different point of view. Though I could attempt to explain what it is I see, I feel it’s much more effective to show them with visual interpretations. More than just clicking the shutter button, but allowing the image to be my mental canvas for my pieces I create.
C: What (or whom) is your inspiration? Why?
T: I guess I can simplify that in one word: Life. There is so much hidden beauty within this world of ours that just can’t be ignored.
C: Where do you see yourself going on your career path? What are your hopes/dreams/aspirations?
T: I see myself becoming very successful within the fashion photography field. I’d also like be able to travel the world and throw many art exhibitions, visit colleges and hope to inspire art students, and also create visual novels with my photography that would feature my photographs and positive affirmations.
C: Best advice you’ve ever received?
T: Things happen for a reason, though it may not be apparent at this given moment at time, every step whether it be positive or negative brings you closer to your overall goal. 🙂
C: Gimme the deets! What’s your instagrame/twitter/snap/society6/redbubble/etc and website info? List it allllll (that you use for your work) 🙂
